RF WELDERS

Manufacturers welding plastic and industrial fabrics rely upon the quality of PVC welding machinery. As such, today’s assembly lines leverage the power of RF heat sealing technology. Supporting multifaceted industry needs, Thermex-Thermatron offers a variety of dynamic RF Welding Systems.

With enhanced radio frequency welding equipment capabilities, our technology is designed to make processes more agile. Thermatron RF Sealers produce a strong, uniform seal on a wide range of materials. From packaging and medical to fabric or automotive products, high frequency welding allows you to dial up rapid-fire production speed. RF Welders are typically used to weld or fuse thermoplastic materials such as PVC, polyurethane, PET, and other materials. Thermex-Thermatron offers PVC welders with output power capabilities from 1.2kW to 40kW. Discover how welding plastic with robust heat sealing machines can uplevel the outcome of your materials.

We can also customize all Thermatron RF Welders based on the unique requirements of an industry’s sealing and heating processes — specifically designed to achieve top efficiency of operations.

How does RF Welding work?

Radio frequency energy is directed through electrodes custom-built to the required shape, making RF Sealing the most versatile of the polymer film sealing methods. RF sealing uses a precise combination of time, pressure, and RF waves to form a stronger, more uniform weld than is possible using other methods. Not all polymers can be dielectrically sealed.

Essentially, RF Welding works through a five-step process:

Loading Parts

Joint member is placed into the welding machine to undergo RF heat sealing.

Pressure Application

Through electrodes, pressure is applied to the joint member. Pressure describes force applied to an area. In this case, a fixed electrode at the bottom requires an actuator to drive the upper electrode downwards with the prescribed force.

Electrical Field Application

An electrical field is applied for a designated amount of time while pressure is maintained throughout the process.

Holding Pressure

As pressure is continually applied along with the electrical field, the portions of the joint member directly in contact with the equipment will melt. The liquid polymers will then diffuse into each other at the respective points of contact.

Unloading Parts/Cooling

This process engages through a chemical process of diffusion and solidification to “weld” the members together. At this point, after the joint cools down, the upper electrode is now brought back and parts are unloaded.
